# Adjusting labor pay

Change what a crew is paid for one or more line items, and send them the updated work order.

When the work changes, so can what you pay the crew for it. **Adjust Labor** on the **Job Items** tab changes the labor on the lines you select and updates each crew's work order to match. It changes your **cost**, not the client's price: the price stays the same and your margin moves.

**Plans:** Lite and up. **Who:** anyone who manages crews on a job.

Recorded in an earlier version of ProStruct360, so some screens may look different. The written steps below are up to date.

## 1. Select the lines

1. Open the job and go to **Job Items**.
2. Click the circle at the right of each line whose labor you're changing. You can pick one line or many, across different crews.
3. Click **Adjust Labor**.

## 2. Enter the new labor

The lines are grouped by crew (lines with no crew are under **Unassigned Items**). For each line, type the new **Labor (total)** — the whole amount for the line, not per unit. **Total Cost** and **Margin** update as you type, and **Crew labor total** adds up each crew.

**Paying a set amount for a crew's lines?** Type it in **Pay a set amount across these items** and click **Spread**. It's divided in proportion to each line's current labor — a line carrying 70% of the labor gets 70% of the amount.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Labor can't go below what the crew has already been paid for a line. If you type less, it's raised back to the amount paid and you'll see **"Adjusted to minimum"**.
{% endhint %}

## 3. Save and send the work order

1. Click **Save Labor**.
2. Each crew whose lines changed gets a new work order with the new amounts. The old one is kept under **Old Work Orders** on the **Work Orders** tab.
3. The job shows **"You have pending work orders that have not been sent"**. Go to **Work Orders** — the crew's **Email** button shows why it changed (for example **Email (Amount Changed)**) — and send it.

See [Work orders](/running-jobs/work-orders.md) for sending.

{% hint style="info" %}
Adjust Labor doesn't pay the crew. It sets what they're owed; you record the payment itself in [Paying vendors](/vendors/paying-vendors.md).
{% endhint %}

## Common questions

**Adjust Labor is greyed out.** It needs a paid plan. On the free Quotes plan it shows **"You can only adjust labor on a paid plan."**

**Will my client's price change?** No. Only the cost and margin change. To change the price, open the line and edit it.

**Can I change labor on a line that's already complete?** Yes, as long as it doesn't go below what's been paid.
